5 Grilling Tips That Will Save Your Plumbing

Posted on October 24, 2022

When it comes to outdoor cooking, Floridians are pros. After all, we can grill all year round, especially in the winter when temperatures are mild, and standing over a hot grill isn’t such a chore. But when it comes to your plumbing, it’s imperative to be mindful of your cleanup habits. If you want to keep perfecting your grillin’ skills without sacrificing your plumbing, read on for our top tips!

Plumbing problems are the last thing you want to deal with when trying to relax and enjoy a backyard BBQ. So here are a few tips to help keep your plumbing functioning properly while you grill:

  • Before you start cooking, scrape off any food stuck to the grates. This will prevent it from burning and sticking to the grill, making it harder to clean later.
  • Grease and oil are inevitable when grilling, but there are ways to minimize the mess. Line your drip pan with foil for easy cleanup, and soak up any grease that drips off the grates with a paper towel.
  • When you’re ready to wash your grill brush, do it outside in a bucket of soapy water. Tossing greasy grilling tools into your dishwasher can lead to clogged plumbing.
  • Don’t put your grill brush in the dishwasher! The bristles can break off and clog the pipes.
  • Soak metal skewers and grates in a bucket of soapy water for an hour before scrubbing them clean. This will help loosen any stuck-on food.

If you have a grease fire, don’t pour water on it! This will only spread the grease and make the fire worse. Instead, cover the grill with a lid or a baking sheet to smother the flames.

Following these tips will ensure a delicious meal and keep your plumbing safe. Just remember to take precautions when handling hot coals, and never pour grease down the drain. And if you notice your plumbing acting up after a day of outdoor cooking, give us a call.
